Final Fantasy XIV (14)
Final Fantasy XIV (14)
Final Fantasy will see the release of its 14th chapter in the year 2010 (for PlayStation 3). Unlike Final Fantasy XIII, which is also slated for a 2010 release, XIV will be a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG).
Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (commonly abbreviated MMORPG) is a genre of computer role-playing games in which a large number of players interact with one another within a virtual game world. The term MMORPG was coined by Richard Garriott, the creator of Ultima Online, the game credited with popularizing the genre in 1997.
As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a fictional character (often in a fantasy world), and take control over many of that character's actions. MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player CRPGs by the number of players, and by the game's persistent world, usually hosted by the game's publisher, which continues to exist and evolve while the player is away from the game.
During its E3 press conference, Sony today announced the exclusivity of the latest game from Rockstar, the developer behind the mega-popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. The new espionage game, Agent, takes place in the 1970s and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy is a media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and is developed and owned by Square Enix (formerly Squaresoft). The franchise centers on a series of console role-playing games (RPGs), but includes motion pictures, anime, printed media, and other merchandise. The series began in 1987 as an eponymous video game developed to save Square from bankruptcy; the game was a success and spawned sequels. The video game series has since branched into other genres and platforms, such as tactical RPGs, portable games, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, and games for mobile phones.
